1927 – 2021

With sadness the family of Dora “Phyllis” Elisabeth Bower announces her passing on March 4, 2021 at the age of 93.

Phyllis was born in Invermere, B.C., on June 25, 1927 to Ursula Ferriera and Knud Knudson, she was the youngest of 6 children. Phyllis grew up in the Columbia Valley, and loved all it had to offer. She met Dalbert Bower and they married June 20, 1949 and resided on their farm in Edgewater, B.C., where they raised a dairy herd. Phyllis then went to study Dairy Farming at UBC, and was one of the two women, in a class of 30. Phyllis and Dalbert started their dairy “Edgewater Dairy” in the early 50’s, delivering milk around the valley for many years. In 1951 their only son Doyle was born. The farm had many animals over the years, and the cows were treated with great respect and affection. After retirement Phyllis enjoyed gardening, boating, canoeing, camping, and hiking. She loved animals and nature and spent most of her time outdoors. A story was shared by one of Phyllis’s nieces, “When Phyllis was a little girl, she was playing over at the Hansen’s house, and decided to take a short cut home, she got lost. People were out searching for her, and she was found by a CPR Maintenance man, although frightened by being lost, this was quickly forgotten when she got a ride on the CPR Speeder!” Phyllis will be remembered for being strong, capable, and kind, she loved learning different things and gardening. Phyllis loved all her step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren dearly, she would give advise and unconditional love, and their respect and love in return made her feel so special in their lives. She has left us with precious memories and will live in our hearts forever.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter-in-law Sharon Bower, stepchildren Brent, Ward and Heath, step-grandchildren, Jessie, Tanya, Fawn, Summer, Brooke, Randy, Mac, Max, and step-great grandchildren, Isabella, Sierra, Danika, Tamara, Jaxson, Quinn, Emery, Vanek, Kylie and Norah, her brother Gordon Erik Knudson, and several generations of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Dalbert, son Doyle and her parents Ursula Ferriera Hurst Knudsen and Knud Knudsen, siblings Enid Hurst Hansen, Vera Hurst Wickman, Mervyn Hurst and Elain Knudsen Turner.
