Obituary of Laura Anne Peddle

Please share a memory of Laura to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Following a lengthy battle with cancer, it’s with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Laura Peddle on August 18, 2022 at the age of 55 years.

She passed away in the Cranbrook hospital surrounded by loving family and friends.

Laura was born in Vancouver and in her youth, was the Queen of Riverside drive; Cruising up and down the streets with her best friends Sonja and Jimmy. She held fond, childhood memories of visiting her grandparents’ orchard in Osoyoos and spending long summer days at the beach.

On the other side of the family were her grandparents’ in Agassiz where she enjoyed spending time with their boxer dogs and helping out at the family-owned bakery.

Laura joined her mother and father when they relocated to Cranbrook and that is where she would eventually choose to raise her own children, a daughter Christine and son Brent.

Even as a single mom, she managed to build a beautiful life for her family and was fortunate to see that family grow as she welcomed the the birth of three grandchildren.

After becoming a mother, Laura realized that her true calling in life was to work with children. She returned to school to complete her early childhood education program and spent 25 years in childcare. She was a valued leader on the team at Kids Club and spent 15 years as a consultant at the Childcare Resource and Referral. When she wasn’t looking after children, she was helping families by providing resources and support to find childcare as well as establishing a toy lending program to serve local children.

Laura loved managing the Kids Club. She poured her heart and soul into her work there; always thinking of cool new crafts and fun experiences for the kids to enjoy.

She was known to go above and beyond —from crazy St. Patrick’s Day shenanigans to over-the-top Halloween parties. The impact that she left on the children of our community will be an enduring legacy for the work that she did.

In 2016 she met the love of her life Randy Peddle and welcomed him into her family. Despite their differences (Randy loves to hunt and fish and Laura was more of a “glamper”) Randy managed to instill in her a passion for the outdoors. They spent many days fishing and laughing together on the lake with their fur grandson, Bruce.

Laura’s exuberant, wild personality was a bright and shining light to so many people. Her memory and her traditions will live on through her children and her adoring grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life for Laura at the Cranbrook History Centre Oct 29, 2022. Time is yet to be determined. She loved all things Halloween and so it’s no surprise that her last wishes were for everybody to wear their spookiest costumes for the occasion.
