I met Doris through Kathy in the late 80’s. My first impression of Doris, was
how she always smiled. After she moved in with Scott and Kathy, I’d make
it a point of going and talking to her. She always seemed happy for the
visit. In her presence I would always be felt to be the focus of the visit.
She’d smile and laugh about something. The only complaint Kathy had
about her Mom was how much dish soap she would use when doing the
dishes. One time I watched Nani as she did the dishes. And yes the suds
were high in the sink. Kathy eventually found a solution to this by buying
an oil dispenser to limit the amount of dish soap.
My last visit with Nani in Sept 2024, was so remarkable. As I entered her
room, time had not stolen anything from this woman. The conversation
was as clear as that first day I’d met her. I was taken aback at how
remarkable this women was. Her speech had not diminished at all for a 92
year old. Her eyes held the sparkle of days of long ago. And yes there was
that same smile.
My only wish was to see her one more time this year.
A treasure to know you Doris. Connie
