Obituary of Lorne Albert Richards

Please share a memory of Lorne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lorne Albert Richards, age 85, of Cranbrook, British Columbia, passed away in his home on December 4, 2024. Lorne was born November 14, 1939, to Brynley and Margaret Richards in the small mountain town of Bellevue, Alberta.

Since childhood, Lorne loved hunting, fishing, and camping with his friends and family. For weeks at a time, he would go out to the mountains and camp near beautiful lakes and rivers. After Lorne graduated from Bellevue High School in 1956, he and his parents moved to Cranbrook, B.C. where he did an apprenticeship to become a licensed automotive mechanic (specializing on Datsun and Arctic Cat Snowmobiles).

Lorne soon met the love of his life, Bobbi Gay (Roberta Gaylene Taylor). They married in the summer of 1960 and spent 63 wonderful years together until her passing in January 2024. For the first few years of marriage, Lorne enjoyed coaching kids baseball. He was a huge sports lover and never missed a Blackhawks or Bluejays game.

Lorne was part of the Majestic’s Car Club where he raced their 55 Chevy on the quarter mile on the drag strip in Wasa, B.C. Lorne was also part of the Sam Steele Committee where he helped build floats for parades that travelled through British Columbia, Alberta, Montana, Idaho, and Washington. For many years, Lorne worked at the Cranbrook Kimberly Municipal Airport until his retirement in 1994.
Lorne always found the time to enjoy reading novels while either relaxing at his home or while out camping in the mountains. He got a lot of enjoyment in making his own red wine and sharing it with his loved ones. He will be forever loved and missed.

He is survived by his daughter Christy (husband Ron); his son, Brent (wife Jackie); his four grandchildren Brandon (wife Allanah), Bryna (husband Brian), Kyle (wife Michelle), Casey (husband Remi); his two greatgrandchildren Harvey and Quinn; his sister-in-law Sheila Peszat; brother-in-law Don Taylor (wife Marcy); and beloved niece Carly VanMeetelen (husband Matt) and many other nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father and mother; his wife Roberta, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marlene and Billie Wasiliew; and brother-in-law Ed Peszat.
