Obituary of Shirley Armstrong (Linstead)
Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shirley, our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend, passed away of natural causes after 90 fully lived years. Shirley loved life and especially enjoyed being around family and friends. She was often bursting into song or whistling.
Shirley was preceded by her loving husband of over 60 years, Bill, who passed in 2022. Shirley will be sorrily missed by her children; Cory (Neal Andersen) and Tylor (Kimberly Kates), and by her grandchildren Rachel (Riley Simister and Great Grandaughter Kennedy) Kailey and Sage, as well as her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Shirley was born in Saskatchewan to Lallah and ‘Len’ Linstead with two siblings preceding her in birth, Doreen and ‘Jerry’, with whom she was close. As the youngest child she was much loved, and probably indulged. In her early twenties Shirley went to Hawaii where she lived and worked for a year. Returning to Calgary Shirley spent her free time skiing with her best friend, Marg Illingworth, and living a very social life. Shirley was a Stampede Princess and loved all the Stampede events. She met her husband Bill at one of these events.
Shirley was very involved with her children, encouraging them to try many sports and activities and was their biggest fan. She was on the school PTA and consistently volunteered at her children’s schools.
A big part of Shirley’s energy was also centered around her husband Bill. A priority was time spent together, socializing, sports at the Winter Club, traveling and most cherished of all was their time spent at Windermere, BC and Palm Desert, California. Shirley loved the lake, boating, swimming, golfing, sun tanning and happy hours. It's no coincidence that Bill and Shirley moved to Invermere in order to spend their final years together.
Rest in Peace Mom.
We love you.
A celebration of life for Shirley and Bill will be held at a later date
