Obituary of Margaret Anne Marra

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret Anne Marra, 79, passed away Feb. 20Th 2025 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital. Born April 6th, 1945 in Cranbrook BC at the very same hospital that her mother was born. Margaret resided for the last years of her life in Cranbrook, previously enjoying life in Kamloops and Surrey BC.

Her parents, John and Rose Marra, moved their family, Margaret’s brother’s Ronald and Gerald and sister Maureen, from Cranbrook to Kamloops where Margaret very much enjoyed all aspects of high school life. She could be seen regularly with best friends Helen and Eileen as she has been described as a very sociable. For extra curricular activities she loved participating in the high school band and is rumoured to have played some sports such as basketball. It was in Kamloops that Margaret met her husband Kevin Kennedy, who passed away at the age of 69 in 2014. Once married they found themselves living back in the Kootenays where they built a house and started a family.

In the early 1980’s Kevin and Margaret went their separate ways, Margaret moved her children, Bridget and Bernie, back to Kamloops to be closer to her parents.

Anyone who ever met Margaret would have learned immediately that her children and her grandchildren were the most important thing in her life, there was nothing she would not do for them. She moved to Surrey BC to be near Bridget’s boys, Alexander and Jason, so that she could spend as much time with them as possible. Years later she moved to Cranbrook to take on three more grandson’s from Bernie’s family. She managed very nicely spoil Gavin, Sam and Kevin. It has been agreed upon, by all grandsons, that they never had to question if their grandma loved them or how much, it was always yes and way more than you could imagine.

Throughout her years Margaret found comfort in books, she favoured pocket novels, and enjoyed crafts such as sewing and knitting and could often be found with a book of crossword puzzles. She was a great cook too, she leaned towards Italian food for sure, but her favourite was making Easter bread with her Grandsons. In the earlier years Margaret also enjoyed playing different sports, particularly the social aspects,  including badminton, curling and skiing.

Career-wise Margaret found herself pursuing a number of different path’s, completing the academic portion of the Respiratory Tech program and several years of post secondary education in Nelson, but always returned to the position of Paralegal, which she did for several decades.

Margaret is survived by brother’s Ronald Marra and Gerald Marra, sister Maureen Krohman, daughter Bridget Dunbar married to David Dunbar, son Bernard Kennedy married to Christie Kennedy, grandsons Alexander Dunbar married to Kristina Dunbar, Jason Dunbar, Gavin Kennedy, Samuel Kennedy and Kevin Kennedy, and finally a great granddaughter at barely four months Rylee Dunbar.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital for their support and care. In particular they would like to thank Dr. Ken Brown and the many nurses and doctors that made her comfort and well being a priority.
