Obituary of David Lovell Askew
Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, David, who left us on February 22, 2025, after a two-year battle with cancer, to begin his next journey. Born November 16, 1960, to Verne and Bertha Askew, David was the cherished little brother of Sue, Pat, Mike, Gord, and Paul.
David spent the first 19 years of his life in Cranbrook, BC., where he developed a love for hockey, playing for the Cranbrook Colts. His passion for the sport never faded, and he continued to play hockey until he was 63 years old. David graduated from Mt. Baker High School before moving to Calgary at the age of 19 to begin a long and fulfilling career with the Calgary Sun as a pressman. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Sara Tempest, and together they built a beautiful life. David went on to become the head pressman at the Calgary Sun, a position he held until the paper’s closing in the early 2010s.
David was predeceased by his parents, Verne and Bertha, and his older sister Sue. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 24 years, Sara, as well as his four brothers, Pat(Dana), Mike(Shelley), Gord(Leigh), and Paul(Betty). David’s legacy also lives on in his numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly.
In accordance with David’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, a memorial will be held in his honor in early summer, where friends and family can come together to celebrate his life and the many memories he leaves behind.
David was a kind and spirited soul, and his presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
