Obituary of Doreen Tadey
Please share a memory of Doreen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Doreen Tadey (née Thacker) — a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend.
Doreen was born in Fernie, B.C., on September 25, 1937, and passed away peacefully at Swan Valley Lodge in Creston, B.C., on March 3, 2025, with family by her side.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 66 years, Millen, her three sons Chris (Dalene), Wally (Sandra), and Brad (Maggie); her cherished grandchildren Allison (Devin), Michelle (Chris), Nicole (Rob), Cory (Rebecca), Dustin, Caitlin (Anthony), and Megan; and her beloved great-grandchildren Katie (Liam), Jordan (Lauren), Steven, Paige, Emma, and Tanner.
Doreen is also survived by her siblings Audrey (Don Rushcall) and Sid (Terry) Thacker, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Wallace and Florence Edna Thacker, her brothers Jim Thacker (Doreen) and Lawrence Thacker (BettyAnn).
Doreen grew up in the Baynes Lake/Wardner area and later moved to Cranbrook in her late teens, where she met Millen and together they raised their family of three sons.
Doreen lived a full and joyful life. She had a passion for cooking and baking, enjoyed visiting with friends, and always appreciated a good book. She loved music—especially country. A devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, she followed baseball closely throughout her life.
Her love for nature and the outdoors was unmatched—often exploring Kootenay back roads, lakes, and streams, always in awe of the beauty that surrounded her. Gardening brought her joy, and her love of flowers reflected her vibrant spirit.
Above all, family was at the heart of everything Doreen did. Her happiest moments were those shared with loved ones—celebrating milestones, laughing together, and simply being present in each other’s lives. Her warmth, kindness, and nurturing spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The Tadey family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Swan Valley Lodge in Creston for their compassion, care, and kindness.
As per Doreen’s wishes, a private service will take place at West Lawn Cemetery in Cranbrook at a date to be determined.
