Q: What will you never forget about Ronald?
A: I had just found out about this. I send my condolences out to the family. I never got to tell Ron this, but he was and is a mentor for me. During the spring and summer he was not only a coach, but he was a teacher of community and giving back as well. For at least I'd say 10 years I never had to worry about not having a coach for baseball. I always knew that coach Ron would be there. I was usually the smallest on the team, but coach Ron knew when and where to use me during games. If I was on the mound struggling, I would hear him call "time" and he would come out of the dugout (man, he always took his time getting to the mound. Seemed like forever). When he finally did come out, he was able to calm me down, "Pat, just put the ball in play". That gave me confidence, no matter the situation. It is solely because of Ron that I started coaching baseball as well. Started when I was in my 20's and I continue to coach today (35+ years). That's the giving back part that Ron taught me. I even use some of his coaching methods and yes, I take my time walking out to the mound. To Sherri, Garvin & Greg I want to let you know that your dad helped to make me who I am today. He has been a positive influence on my life.

Having known Ron for 50+ years..it is difficult for me to condense these memories into a shorter version. Chetwynd was where we first met and became friends. Overtime
we interacted in community events and social activities...mainly Mens Fastball and Ladies Softball. Ron did NOT play Ladies Softball but Audrey did and was darned good at third base. After our fastball games on Sunday, there was always a croquet game...with a few beers and a lot of controversy about how the game should be played.
After Ron, Audrey and their family moved, we kept in touch and our friendship remained strong despite the distance. We made bets on numerous sports.. hockey, baseball and football. Once I sent him a cheque to pay my debt and he returned it cut in half.
Ron was an amazing and honorable man with qualities that he held true to. I will miss my friend but my memories of will keep him near and in my heart.

I got to know both Ron and Audrey over the fall of 2024 when Ron and my dad shared a room at the Cranbrook hospital. Audrey’s devotion to Ron all day every day, day in and day out, week in and week out, month in and month out, was very inspiring for me in my caregiving role, and gave me needed strength. Ron and Audrey were an incredible couple even during that difficult time, with Ron’s appreciation of Audrey and his sense of humour so clear to me as our paths crossed throughout the day every day. The quality of life that Audrey gave Ron, which I saw first hand every day cannot be underestimated, and is a testament to the goodness of both of them. I am so sorry that Ron has passed and send my sincerest condolences to Audrey and the family.

Condolences to the entire Tarr family. I have wonderful memories of Ron umpiring many of the baseball games my brothers and I played in as children and young men. I was always happy to see “Mr. Tarr” on the field because I knew that we would have quality umpiring that day. I believe my father felt the same way and they umpired many games together. Mr. Tarr was famous for keeping the game moving. One of my fondest memories of minor ball was when, between innings, in an attempt to get the kids to hustle on and off the field, Mr. Tarr would proclaim, “Come on, it’s getting dark!”. Mind you this was at 12pm and full sun=). Ron, I might have stole your line on more than one occasion with the kids I coach ;). Thanks for the memories Mr. Tarr, you will be missed.

Dear Mrs. Tarr & family,
My parents, you & Mr. Tarr shared many good times over the years; whether it was as Chums of the Chamber, volunteers for numerous Community Events & Projects or as Mr. Tarr & Dad served together as City Councillors.
And yet I would say my parents would say, you both were good friends and the best of the best! Amazing community role models!
Our sincere condolences & pray in time, your hearts will be filled with warmth from remembering so many fun & good times.
Warmly, Jane (Kennelly) & Al Coates

Our deepest condolences to Audrey and family. We remember Ron with great affection as a wonderful community leader. Some of his close friends referred to him as "SENATOR TARR" as he always portrayed such a calm and thoughtful leadership style. He served many years on City Council and represented the City very effectively on the RDEK board. We also remember how active Ron was with the 1986 BC Games leadership as well as the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce. Cranbrook has lost a wonderful citizen. Ron will be missed.

Sorry to hear of Ron’s passing, he was truly a great man.
I remember a time when Garvin and I were just young kids, playing minor hockey in Cranbrook. In those days the parents would drive the kids to hockey games in small towns around Cranbrook. Back when you could easily fit 5-6 kids in a car and seat belts were those annoying things that you pushed out of the way. Ron had volunteered to drive this particular Saturday, but their family car was acting up, or wouldn’t start for some reason . Ron knew he had kids depending on him to get to the game, so he simply went down to the local car dealership and bought a new car! He did not want to let anyone down. He taught me a lot by example as I was growing up. I am consider myself lucky to have had Ron in my life.
RIP Mr. Tarr.

Thinking of all of you at this difficult time and sending big hugs.
I will always have fond memories of Ron teaching Sherri and I to golf (and all the course etiquette) in Cranbrook as well as putting up with our volleyball teams crashing in their house during the big volleyball tournament in January that we would drive out for. He and Audrey always welcomed me to their home like I was part of the family. I appreciated his dry sense of humor was very glad I got to know him while visiting Cranbrook.
Ron you will be missed.
