Obituary of Patricia Pauline Oakland (Burrin)

Patsy was born in Kimberley on April 23, 1931 in the family home on Mark Street. Later the family moved to a larger home beside the garage- Kimberley Motors on Wallinger Ave, owned by her parents Fred and Vi Burrin. She graduated from Selkirk High School on 1949, before moving to Victoria to attend Normal School to become a teacher.
Patsy’s first teaching job was on Birch Island where she taught grades 1-8 in a little one room schoolhouse. She then moved to Spillimacheen to teach while living in a little cabin behind the general store.
Patsy met and married the love of her life, Ernie Oakland in 1954 while working in Golden. They were married in 1955 then moved to Marysville as Ernie had received a job as work’s foreman for the Village of Marysville.
Between 1956 and 1961 the had three children; Chris, Robin, and Lori. While raising her family Pat stayed busy by being active in Cubs, Guides, PTA, and the Marysville Historical Committee. She also worked in the Marysville Thrift Shop, receiving a pin for 50 years of service.
During retirement Pat and Ernie travelled to Yuma for many winters and enjoyed their summers at the family property in Perry Creek.
After Ernie passed Pat moved to Garden View Apartments, living there until her passing on March 12, 2025.
Pat was predeceased by her son Chris, husband Ernie, brother Peter, and nephew Fred.
She is survived by daughters Robin Oakland, and Lori Oakland, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, brother Fred Burrin (Marg) and their family.
