Obituary of Derek Todd Teschuk

Please share a memory of Derek to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With a very heavy heart, I am saddened to announce the passing of the love of my life, my Husband, Derek Teschuk.  Derek fought the fight of his life when he was diagnosed with cancer in August of 2024 and he did so until he couldn't.

With his brother flying in days before his passing, I believe that he thought he could finally go in peace and he waited for his brother so that I would not be alone and would have someone from his family to be by both of our sides.

Derek grew up in Vancouver, B.C. with his brother, Darcy, 2 years his junior and many cousins for whom he was most grateful to have in his life.  When Derek and I met, I had been living in Vancouver for just over 10 years and I started bringing him back to my hometown of Ferine, B.C. for vacation,  He fell in love with the Kootenays and when the company he worked at for over 20 years was shutting down, he wanted to move here and so we began a new adventure and moved to Cranbrook, B.C.  It was tough for him to find a good job, so when he went back to school at 40 to become a Heavy Duty Mechanic, I couldn't have been prouder of him.  He did everything that he could to take care of me over the 25 years that we knew each other and make sure I knew that I was loved, and he did just that. Derek worked in the Vitamin manufacturing industry for over 20 years and in the mining industry for about 15 years. He was a diehard Vancouver Canucks fan and also liked golfing and camping, although after he started working at the mines, because he spent so much time away from home, when he came home, he just liked to hang out there.

Derek will be missed by his family and his many friends and by our remaining cat Purrscilla who comforted him so much while he was sick. Derek will be loved always and will never be forgotten. And for our inside joke for him and I....the Sheriff has retired.

Derek is survived by his wife Michelle Teschuk (nee Camilli), brother Darcy Teschuk (Treena), niece Emma, nephew Jacob, parents Fay and David Teschuk, as well as brother from another mother Brent McPhie.

A private celebration of life was held at our home on Saturday April 19, 2025 with one to follow in Vancouver B.C. this summer.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The Canadian Cancer Society in Derek’s memory.
