Richard (Dick) Gerbrandt was born 5 miles NE of Gouldtown, Saskatchewan on February 4, 1929. He was 96 years old when he passed away from old age and went to heaven.

Richard grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan where he worked hard doing farm work, taking care of cattle and working in the fields. His fondest memories were going out on his horse with his 22 rifle and hunting for deer or shooting coyotes. As a boy he used to snare or trap gophers, keep their tails for which he received 2 cents each from the government.

Life was not easy for him as a child as it was the great depression and money was scarce. The winters were severe and his family lived in a one room house without running water or electricity on the prairies. He also had a challenging upbringing which affected Richard for the rest of his life.

When he was 16 years old, his family moved to Chilliwack, BC where he decided to follow Christ. As a young man he decided to attend Canadian Bible Institute which brought him to Regina. There he met Ida Maier and they were married on October 6 / 1956. They then had three sons, Wayne, Les and Brian.

They moved to Calgary in 1960 and lived there until 1967 at which time they moved to Cranbrook. Richard had a successful business building houses and then installing overhead doors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and caring for his animals on their acreage. He was very involved with the Gideons organization.

Richard has been living at Joseph Creek Care Village for the past two years where he has been well taken care of

He was predeceased by his son Brian and sisters Jessie (Pawliski) Voth and Helen Kelbert.

Richard is survived by his wife Ida, sons Wayne (Brenda), Les, and grandkids Laurena (Jas), Brandon and Anika, and daughter-in-law Susan.
