I first met Eelin when I was working at Lindsay Park Sclool as a paraprofessional in 1983. She was soon to become one of my favourite people on staff.
She was always helpful and many times went above and beyond to look after me. One time, on the last day of school before the Christmas holiday I lost a dental filling. I called my usual dentist and couldn't get an appointment until February of the coming year!. That is a long time to go with a cavity. I went back to class kind of fuming a bit, and a short time later Eelin came in to the class and handed me a note...she had contacted her dentist and I had an appointment for that same afternoon to get the tooth filled. Who does that kind of thing? Eelin!
Eelin was always beautifully dressed, nice colours, usually with a matching scarf and a nice pin holding it. always nicely turned out. I am more of a casual dresser (understatement) with a haphazard approach to clothes. Eelin frequently turned the ends of my collars right, or tucked in a label, just little touches that I always appreciated.
After my mom passed away I was executor for her estate, a long process. I managed to get it all organized and hand-written, and then Eelin offered to type it all up for me, on her own time. When it was done it was perfect, naturally.
She often called me "Gull", a nickname she invented for me that no one else used . I loved having that connection, and I will never forget her laugh, it was the best, hearty and from the heart.
She loved all her family and I know you will miss her.
