"Norm" June 20th, 1936- November 24th, 2016 Charles Ian Norman Campbell MacDonald (Norm) was born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan to parents John and Isabel MacDonald. Norm was one of four children including his sisters Isabel, Dorothy and Christine. Norm attended Mayfair Elementary in Saskatoon and later Bedford Road Colligate High School. Norm went to work at the Canadian National Express. Norm fell ill with tuberculosis and was admitted to the Saskatoon sanatorium Hospital for 2 years. After he was released from the hospital, Norm moved to Nipawin, Saskatchewan where he lived with his sister and brother-in-law. While there he took an interest in the funeral industry apprenticing under James H. Coventry. It was there he was introduced to the love of his life Adeline. Midway through his funeral director apprenticeship, Norm transferred to North Battleford, Saskatchewan where he finished his apprenticeship. He graduated and became a licensed funeral director and embalmer. After graduating Norm went to work for The Winnipeg Casket Company as a sales representative. After his time with the casket company Norm and Adeline moved back to Nipawin and on October 9th, 1965 they were married. In 1970 Norm and Adeline packed up and moved west to beautiful Creston, BC where Norm worked as the managing director of G.F. Oliver Funeral Chapel. Norm served many families in the Creston Valley. Life changed tragically for Norm when his wife Adeline passed away suddenly in 1978. He left the funeral home a few years later. After his departure from the funeral home Norm purchased a clothing store as well as a dry cleaning business in Creston which he ran for several years before selling and retiring. In his retirement years Norm loved spending time in the Kootenays, visiting family, being with friends, and especially his four legged companions. To keep busy Norm worked part time with McPherson Funeral Service in Cranbrook where he maintained his funeral director and embalmer's license. Norm had an immense love for animals including his dogs and cats. He called his pets his kids and he thoroughly enjoyed their company.
