Cleo St. George
1934 - 2017
Cleo passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 83 years of age.
Born on February 18, 1934 in Lavigne, Ontario, Cleo was the youngest of six children born to Ovila St. George and Fabiola Rivet. Joseph Simeon Cleo St. George grew up in logging communities around Lake Nipissing in northern Ontario. He joined the Canadian Army in 1954 and served as a transport driver and military police in Korea, France and Germany, attaining the rank of Corporal. After being honourably released from service in 1974, he worked briefly as police and chief security officer before being appointed as the Head of Security for Safeway for Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. He continued to work after taking an early retirement from Safeway, running a private investigation business, driving commercial trucks, and serving as on-site manager for several properties in Manitoba and British Columbia. He was never one to sit idle and for the past 10 years was property manager of Georgian Pines Home Park in Cranbrook, British Columbia.
Cleo's enjoyment in life came from his family, as well as his many friends. A good day for him would feature a long horse ride on the trail with his dogs Steel, Thor, and Trooper by his side.
Cleo is survived by his wife Trish, son Paul, daughter Janet (Len Halbesma), son Scott (Maga Gei), grandchildren Ken (Christine St. George), Michelle (Stephen Pyesmany), Nicci (Scott Koughan), his 6 great grandchildren, and sister Emelda Grenier. He was predeceased by his son Daniel St. George, siblings Lucille Roy, Reine-Aimée Lacaille, Fleurange Hérard, and Fernand St. George, and many dear friends.
On May 21 2017, a small gathering of family came together to scatter his ashes at his favourite mountain creek.
Memorial donations can be made in his honour to Prostate Cancer Canada, or your local humane society/SPCA.
A special thanks to all who made his last days at home comfortable.
Rest in Peace.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
