Obituary of Kenneth Frederick Tipper
Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
1915 - 2012
The old cross-country skier, ferrier, fire fighter, fisherman, guide outfitter, horse doctor, hunter, packer, teamster, wrangler, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, made his last ride on the morning of April 26, 2012. Born on April 21, 1915, Ken was the last survivor of the Tipper family hailing from Yahk, British Columbia. He was the second youngest of seven children in the family.
Ken married Ida Martin in 1939 and they were blessed with a daughter Gail (Allan) Johnson of Okotoks, Alberta, a son Gary of Kimberley and three grandchildren Darcy (Glenys) Johnson of Fernie, British Columbia, Ben Tipper of Burnaby, British Columbia and Ashlin Tipper of Whistler, British Columbia, and one great grandchild Maddox Johnson. Ida passed away in 1982 and he married Betty Brenton in 1985; Betty still lives in Kimbrook Manor.
Ken spent a year working for Cominco in Kimberley, four years in the Air Force and then went back to Cominco where he worked until 1975 as a welder and welding instructor. In addition to being "the best damned boilermaker in the country", he was perhaps the longest surviving Cominco pensioner!
Ken was proud, dignified and....stubborn. His passions always included the outdoors, which he shared with his favourite animals, dogs and or horses, friends and family.
In addition to his siblings and first wife Ida, Ken was predeceased by a young daughter Arlene.
Ken's family would like to express thanks to all of those who assisted with his care these last few years. Special mention includes Stu and Kaylan Bain, Arlene Campbell and the rest of the staff at the Kimbrook Manor, as well as the residents and friends there. Similarly, an expression of appreciation is extended to Dr. Ron Nash for his care and concern, Janet Woodley for her diligent work, the wonderful staff at the Kimberley Special Care Home (the Pines) and to long-time special friend Velma Peter.
In keeping with Ken's wishes; no funeral service will be held.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
