(nee MacKinnon) 1922 - 2012
With great sadness, the family of Catherine McCormick announces her passing on April 27, 2012 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, British Columbia.
Catherine was born on April, 24, 1922 in Springhill, Nova Scotia. On April 28, 1941, she married Ivan McCormick, now deceased. After many years in Springhill, they moved to Flin Flon and Snow Lake, Manitoba before eventually making their permanent retirement home in Kimberley, B.C., in 1982.
Catherine is survived by sons, Gary (Betty) and Eric (Pat) and daughters Kathryn Anderson and Vicki Waite. She is also survived by sisters Eleanor Kinslow of Marlborough, Massachusetts and Dot Lavers of Springhill, Nova Scotia and by 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by Ivan, her husband of 66 years; by son, Herb; and by sons-in-law Larry Anderson and Orm Waite.
Catherine, "Kit" as she was known by her family and close friends, was a highly accomplished 5 pin bowler. To this day her high triple score of 963, including two games over 300, still stands as the all-time record in Flin Flon, Manitoba, and in the year 2000, at the age of 78, she was still able to bowl a 722 triple at the lanes in Kimberley.
Right up to her passing, Catherine remained a member of the Snow Lake, Manitoba Royal Canadian Legion.
In accordance with Catherine's wishes, she has been cremated. There will be a brief graveside service in her remembrance on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., with Reverend Derrick Smith officiating at the Kimberley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Catherine asked that donations be made in her memory to the Kimberley Helping Hands Food Bank, 340 Leadenhall Street, Kimberley, B.C. V1A 2B1 or to a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
