Obituary of Gerald Edwin Jolliffe

Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

1941 - 2013

Cranbrook native Gerald Jolliffe passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Joseph Creek Care Village after a long illness and he will be missed.

Gerald was born on September 28, 1941 in Cranbrook, the third son of Wilfred and Victoria Jolliffe. Although he left Cranbrook when he was in his twenties, he never forgot his roots. For several years he lived in Hanceville, B.C operating a sawmill and logging business quite successfully, often returning to Cranbrook to visit family and friends. In later years, while still living in the Chilcotin, he ran for public office, becoming a Regional Director, a job he held for several years and was passionate about making a difference. When he decided to return to Cranbrook again to live, he again used his experience working in the Chilcotin to make a difference in Cranbrook running twice for public office; his proudest moment being the opening of a foot bridge across St. Joseph Creek that he developed and fought for in order to make a short-cut for seniors wishing to shop on foot. He did not rest long on his laurels, for he then decided the Seniors Centre in Cranbrook needed an elevator to make it more accessible for people with disabilities. He was still working on that project when he was hospitalized.

Gerald was predeceased by his brothers Fred Jolliffe (1939) and Ralph Jolliffe (1966); his mother Victoria (1985) and father Wilfred (1986). He is survived by his younger brother Harold (Norma) of Calgary, AB; his life-long friend Elvin Lindberg (Colleen); his nephew Forrest Jolliffe of Calgary, AB; niece Alexandra Wilson of Fairmont Hot Springs, BC; great nephews Connar and Thomas Jolliffe; three great nieces Hailey, Jamie and Ashlee and his long time companion and travel buddy Olga McDonald.

A memorial service for Gerald will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 1:00 pm at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook. His Interment will be in Fort Steele Cemetery - where Gerald was involved in the upgrading process of the cemetery.
