1919 - 2012

The family of Leon Jean Cloarec sadly announce his passing on May 9, 2012 in Cranbrook, British Columbia at 93 years of age.

Leon is survived and will be missed by his loving wife of 63 years Margaret Jean (nee Carroll); children Derald (Molly), Wendy (Robert), Kevin of Fort McMurray, Donald (Laura); his brother Louis; his grandchildren Kristy (Ryan), Jennifer (Steve) of Celista, Sean, Coral (Ian) of Nelson, Brett, Christopher of Calgary and his great grandchildren Brennan, Sadie, Clea, MaKayla, Cameron, Dustin, and Chase of Nelson. He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Josephine, his brother Clarence and his granddaughter Tracy.

Leon was born on March 8, 1919 in Cranbrook. His parents Jean and Marie Cloarec lived on a ranch near Skookumchuck at the time. He joined the RCAF in 1942 and served overseas during World War II. When he returned, he worked for Cominco in Kimberley until his retirement in 1977. He married Margaret Jean Carroll in 1949 and they raised four children. After retiring, they made many camping trips to Northern BC and to the Southern USA.

Leon enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, curling, gardening, travelling and time spent with his family. He was an avid hockey fan of the Cranbrook Royals, Cranbrook Colts and the Kootenay Ice.

The family wishes to extend thanks to Dr. Buchar and Dr. Cutler and the home support nurses for their care and kindness.

A funeral mass for Leon will be held at Christ The Servant Roman Catholic Church in Cranbrook on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
