Please share a memory of Deborah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Deborah Lynn Soby (Debbie) May 2, 1957 - December 2, 2017 It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Deborah Lynn Soby (Luft). After an arduous battle with ovarian cancer, Debbie passed away peacefully in the Invermere Hospital on the evening of December 2, 2017 (age 60). Debbie was born and raised in Calgary, AB. with her siblings Judy and Rick, Mother Ethel and Father Peter. Debbie attended Langevin High School and on May 14, 1987, married the love of her life, John. She held many different jobs over the years but was most happy spending time with friends and family in their home in Radium, BC, which they built in 1989. Debbie loved the outdoors and would often be found hiking in the mountains, kayaking the Columbia River, boating in Lake Windermere, hosting fabulous get-togethers with those she cherished most, as well as traveling Canada ,the USA, and the world with her husband John. Debbie leaves behind her husband/best friend (of 37 years) John C. Soby; her step children, Laura Soby-Nicholls (Mark), Craig Soby (Cheechum) and Sean Day (Christine); as well as grandchildren Yma, Viggo , Elena, and Liam. She also leaves to mourn her brother Rick Luft (Sue), nieces Alana (Davon) Barb (Alex) and nephew Cameron Luft. Her niece, Shannon DeModica (John), was the light in Debbie's life and was like a daughter to both Debbie and John. Debbie is also survived by her grandnieces and nephews Johnathon, Kelsey, Mary, Mateo, Gabriel, and Zackary and her cousins Gayle Becker (Larry), Glenn Hill (Theresa), and their children Laryissa, Sarena, Dyanna, Kyle, Austen and Taylor. Debbie also leaves behind so many marvellous friends who have truly become family, and have been so tremendously helpful over the last 3 and a half years since her diagnosis. Words of thanks are not enough to all those who have been there to help the family through this difficult time. We will be hosting a Celebration of Debbie's Life on Sunday, December 10th, 2017 from 2pm-5pm @ John and Debbie's home (8161 HWY 93/95 Radium, BC). This will be a drop-in event; all are welcome. Please come and share your memories of Debbie. Laugh, cry, and celebrate her life with the family, and help us honour one of the strongest, kindest woman we were blessed to have in our lives. In lieu of flowers John has asked that donations be made to The Hospice Society of the Columbia Valley www.hospicesocietycv.com. There will be a second celebration in honour of Debbie Soby in Calgary later this month; details to be determined.
