Obituary of Iris May Murley

Iris May Murley 1925 - 2017 Iris May Murley (nee Ash) passed away peacefully at her home in Kimberley, BC on Monday, December 25th at the age of 92. She was born on May 6, 1925 in Swansea, South Wales. During the Second World War Iris served in the UK Women's Land Army. She met her future husband Bill Murley (who was serving in the Royal Air Force) at a ballroom dancing class. They married in Swansea on November 6, 1944 and moved to Newfoundland, where Iris raised her family of five children. In 1980 Iris and Bill moved to Abbotsford from Newfoundland to be near their children. In 1999 they moved to their home in Kimberley. Iris loved to sing, and her children have many fond memories of her singing around their home and at church. She loved to read, to garden and to knit. Her children were the source of much joy. Iris was predeceased by her husband Bill in 2006. She was also predeceased by her son Alan, in December of 2016. Iris is survived by her daughter Elaine (Carson) of Abbotsford, BC and her sons Kenneth (Valerie) of Kimberley, BC, Robert (Shan) of Chilliwack, BC, and Barry (Gloria) of Lethbridge, AB, her daughter-in-law Michelle of Draper, Utah, and by 28 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Iris will be lovingly remembered by her sister Vera and her family in the UK, as well as her sister-in-law Ruby (Harold) and brothers-in-law Chet (Shirley) and Joe and numerous nieces and nephews. A service will be held for Iris at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 5th, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Cranbrook, BC. Interment will follow in the Marysville Cemetery in Marysville, BC. Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service. Condolences for the family can be offered at: www.mcphersonfh.com
