Peter Woods
1933 - 2018
Peter Woods, in his 85th year, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at East Kootenay Regional Hospital.
Peter was born in Kimberley on September 28, 1933 and was a life-long third generation resident, growing up on his parent's ranch at Cherry Creek. Peter worked as a rancher, logger and miner. His business, Peter Woods Contracting, was widely known for building fences throughout the East Kootenays. Peter also always enjoyed working on his Christmas tree permits and was known for cutting and delivering firewood to his many friends and neighbours. He always had time for a visit and a story telling session, which usually included much laughter and many smiles.
He was predeceased by his parents, 2 brothers Harold and David, by 1 son Jerry and 1 grandson Michael. Peter is survived by 2 sons Jim (Bev) Woods and Rod Woods, daughter-in-law Susan Woods, grandchildren Nolan, Shandell, Jason and Chris (Yuka) Woods, great-granddaughters Sara and Anna, his brother Doug, 3 sisters Norma, Olive and PEI sister Doris, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Peter truly enjoyed seeing everyone at his Living Celebration of Life held at Wasa last fall, and so at Peter's request there will be no further service at this time. Donations in Peter's memory may be made to: The Cranbrook Boys and Girls Club - 1404 - 2nd Street N, Cranbrook, BC, V1C 3L2.
To Peter: by Cody Canning
Last night while I was sleeping I had a fantastic dream, a place so peaceful, where the trees were swaying on the banks of the clearest stream.
A place where your lunch makes itself; ready for morning work. And the supper follows suit and puts itself on the table to allow a guy the time to pull a cork.
A place where standing dead trees are wherever you go and your quad always keeps running; never gets stuck in the snow.
A place where the post pounder never makes a sound, and there are never any rocks; it's always soft ground.
A place where your chainsaw always stays sharp - never have to file or take it apart.
It was a place where you always stay healthy. Your back never aches, your nose never drips and your hands never shake.
A place where hummingbirds stay at the feeder year round and the steep hill to the house is always bare ground.
A place where the woodpile grows twice as fast as it should and it always stays perfectly seasoned wood.
