1932 - 2012

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces the passing of Lyndell A. "Bim" Brehm at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital on June 20, 2012 at the age of 79.

Bim was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on December 23, 1932. He moved to Cranbrook as a young teenager and graduated from 10th Avenue High School in 1950. Bim was born with a love for sports, especially fastball. His talent for the game was highlighted in the winning the 1954 Western Canadian Championship as a member of the Swanson's Men's Team, and in 1993 at the BC Summer Games Senior Slo-Pitch Tournament where his team took gold. He was also an avid bowler playing on local teams and took an active role in supporting Youth Bowling. He was a devoted fan to many hockey teams over the years, both locally and professionally, but his love of the Boston Bruins was innate; this showed when Boston took home the Stanley Cup in 2011. It was his involvement in these sports and his various jobs around Cranbrook, which established many long lasting friendships. In 1955, Bim married Jean Martin and together they began their family, which was his greatest joy in life.

Bim is survived by: his loving wife, Jean, their four children; Rick (Sylvia), Don (Christine), Rod, Deanna (Leon) Luscher. Twelve grandchildren; Robert, Michael, Charlene, Eric, Ian, Valerie, Shannon, Jason, Nicole, Sarah, Renee, Brett and six great-grandchildren. Loving sisters; Linda (Brian) Kostiuk of Cranbrook and Joan Scanland of Rutland, B.C. Brothers-in-law; Lachlan (Kathy) Martin of Toronto and Tom (Marylin) Parkin of Nanaimo. Along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bim is predeceased by his parents; Hans and Margret Brehm, brother; Peter Brehm and granddaughter; Angela Faye Luscher.

Bim's funeral service will take place at the Cranbrook Alliance Church Tuesday, June 26th, 2012 at 11:00 am. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in honor of Bim may do so to the Prostate Cancer Foundation BC, #4, 17918 - 55th Avenue, Surrey, British Columbia, V3S 6C8; online at: http://prostatecancerbc.ca ; or phone toll-free at: 1-877-840-9173 and indicate that the donation is in memory of Bim Brehm.
