Thank you Don, I was just telling the story today of playing with my dad in the orchestra for Man of La Mancha back in the early 90s when you lead the band. I loved going to practice with my dad and having the honour of playing music with him then. Kirsten

Through my brother John and in my few forays into bands and music as well as being his accountant for a while, I was fortunate to get to know and spend some time with Stew. What a truly fine man he was. Always with a smile, a hello and a conversation about many things but mostly music. I can still hear him playing Getting Sentimental just like it was coming off Dorsey's record. My deepest sympathies for the loss of your loved one.

Robin and family.
I met Stew in '76. When I first heard him playing along side several other amazingly talented local musicians, I thought this guy should be playing in Toronto or New Orleans! Fortunately for us, he remained in Cranbrook as a fixture of the local music scene.
Stew loved music. Any genre, and he was "in". Besides being a lifetime proponent of swing music, he was always up for anything else.
"Hey Stew. The Symphony needs a trombone part?" "Sure!"
"Want to play jazz in a small group?" "Well, of course!"
"Want to start a rock band with real electric guitars and a horn section?" " Okay???"
"Will you even join a group that's going to be called Wham Go the Ducks?" "You bet!"
"They're starting a community band. Wanna join?" "Which one?" "Both!"
"And you really can tune a piano?" "Ya, I'll do that for you!"
He was the consummate musician, and through it all remained a modest, down to earth gentleman. He has been a huge influence in my musical life. Play on Stew!

We were so blessed to have had the privilege of playing in "Wham Go the Ducks" with Stewie. He was such a kind soul and never seemed to get rattled. He treated everyone with the utmost respect and could make that trombone melt your heart. One of the high lights was when Stewie and Woody did that blues duet together with Woody on trumpet. Very fond memories with Stewie and the Band. You have left a legacy of inspiration and we will miss you dearly. Mary C Bradley and Darwin "Woody" Woods. Thoughts and prayers for your family.

In the 15 years I played with the Stew I never heard him say an unkind thing about anyone. He was a great trombonist and an even better friend. So many great memories I will cherish of nights on a bandstand, in the Legion after practice and especially long van rides home at 3:00 AM from Fairmont. While attending McKim and Selkirk I used to spend my lunch hours with Stew listening to and talking about jazz at Eddie's BC Electric. Not only did he sell me my fist record he sold my mom and dad my first instrument. There are so many ways he touched my life. Now he will be back on stage with Doug, Charlie, Bud, Art and Mo. Goodbye old friend. Rest in peace. I'll see you all again someday so save a sax chair for me.

Dear Taylor Family.
I am so saddened to hear of Stewart.s passing. I have known Stew all my life and started school with him back in grade one. In High School he played trombone in the band and I player second clarinet ( just a mediocre player) not like Stewart who had a natural talent for music. I think our band master, Mr. Yarwood, knew he had a treasure in Stew..
\When Stewart opened " The Stewart House of Music' in Cranbrook, I would always stop in for a chat and a chuckle He was always so cheerful and kind-hearted. The last time I had the pleasure of seeing him was in September at the Platzl in Kimberley playing with the community band.. Stew will always have a place in my heart and I know he will be missed by all who knew him.
My sincere sympathy to you in the loss of your dear husband, father, grandfather and broher.

Dear Taylor Family ,
Thank you for the opportunity of having known Stew for these many years.
I was both saddened and shocked to learn of his passing .
His musical engagements that any of us were fortunate enough to enjoy will forever remain implanted in our minds and hearts . Stew loved his trombone . We knew THAT when he played ! A rare and natural talent .
Stew's sense of humour, his
wit, and colour lent much to any gatherings.
I always knew him as the "Big Brother " and as such I held a certain reverence for him . I always will.
He is greatly missed .
May peace be with you as the comfort from friends and loved ones is extended to you throughout these sad days.
Love to you all ,
Bev Turner

I wish to extend my most heartfelt condolences to Stewart's whole family! I never met Stewart but growing up a life long friend of Ruth's and subsequently knowing Robin and Elizabeth (and meeting Laura and Kirstin) I simply wish to express my deepest sympathy. It sounded as though his passing was very peaceful, at home, with his family and for that I am sure you all derive great comfort. Hugs to you all!
