Obituary of Margaret Joyce Eckersley

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Joyce, Mother, Grand-Mother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Sister-In-Law, and Friend on May 13, 2019. Marg was born at home in Vancouver BC on April 18, 1936, the third and youngest child, of Alma Viola (nee Miller) and Edvin Alexander Johansson. She lived, went to school and worked there until meeting Emerson in 1955. Following their marriage, and after Em's discharge from the Navy, they came to Kimberley BC, Dad's hometown, to raise their family. In the 60's local sports caught her interest and she became Catcher for the Marysville Go Go Girls Softball Team. The team went on to win the 1969 League Championship. When Regalanes opened for Five Pin Bowling the sport became a passion for the Eckersley's. Marg's competitive nature earned her some renown in bowling circles home and away. She qualified for membership in the BC 5-Pin Bowling 400 Club on at least two occasions, bowling single games of 410 and 418! You could find her at the Casino or Bingo Hall enjoying games of chance in the company of friends, old and new. Sharing laughs and big trout tales around many a campfire at Whitetail Lake made for happy memories too! She was predeceased by her husband Emerson "Em" in 2017, parents, daughter Marty 2007, son Leonard 2012, brother-in-law Jack 2008, brother Leonard 2018, sister Helen 2018. She is survived by her daughter Jo-Anne Eckersley (Cliff Boychuk) and their children Cindy-Lee (Clint) Pighin and Adam (Chelsea) Vogel; Shelley Crotty (Mike) and Lisa (Paul) Kennedy and their families. She is also survived by Marty's daughter Carrie-Lynn Westgate and Leonard's son Matthew Eckersley. Sharing in our sorrow are her sister-in-law Bette Eckersley, niece Tannis (Tom) Sorensen and nephew, Michael (Barb) Eckersley and families, brother-in-law Floyd Barnes, extended family members in Canada, USA and Sweden. Margaret will be inurned in a Columbarium at the Kimberley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice. Thank you AT THE CASINO
