I have lived life to the fullest
Once proud and a sharp mind
This disease has been the cruelest
Taking my thoughts has been most unkind
Remember me as Gramma Di, Mom or as your friend
Not how my mind has experienced this descend
I have 8 grandkids who I loved and the time I spent with them I relish
My time in Cranbrook with them always cherished
My childhood survived the deadliest war
To allow me to raise a daughter and two sons
Too much loss and so many guns
My children are safe from those who sacrificed
My country at home and across the Isle are better today not by one but by thrice
My willowbrook friends were the dearest
Grace and Jean who lived the nearest
I ran the books for the strata
No need for a computer or any data
Always accurate and with a fury my pencil scribbled in the ledger
But over time I knew my mind was not of the same measure
I played bridge like a warrior
But some of my partners playing were filled with horror
Lost tricks bad calls it was Bridge and my friends that slowed my falls
To the end, my aides and nurses of Joseph creek worked their magic
Keeping me smiling and not feeling so tragic
My family was here to see me through
Always helping with their cues
My eyes always lit up when they came through the door
I could not speak, but my heart was filled to the core
Remember not what I became
Because truly I am not the same
Instead think of the times we have shared
Even to this day I know that you all cared
My life has been filled and now at peace I have a request
I may not be able to share my memories
But If you can remember to bequest
A donation to the Alzheimer's society of B.C. will help me rest
Remember my smile and my warm embrace
It is now time for me to leave this place
Remember not what I became
Because truly I am not the same
My children and grandchildren I will miss
I remain in your memories when you reminisce
There will be no services as requested.
