Obituary of Madelyn Dorothy Desrosiers

Please share a memory of Madelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

June 10, 1933 - September 1, 2012

Madelyn Desrosiers (nee Thompson) passed away peacefully at Joseph Creek Care Village in Cranbrook on Saturday, September 1, 2012.

We her children are so proud and honoured to have had Madelyn as our mom. Madelyn will forever live in the hearts of her three children, Susan (Hank) Spence of Calgary, Mike (Liz) Desrosiers of Cranbrook and Murray (Sheri) Desrosiers of Calgary and six special grandchildren, Cody, Derek, Sage, Cole, Brooke and Jordan. Madelyn was predeceased by her husband of 51 years George in 2010.

Madelyn was born in Chilliwack and was the youngest of five children. At an early age, Madelyn and her brother Robert moved to the Jaffray area where they lived with Mrs. Rosen. She is survived by her brother Donald of Nanaimo and was predeceased by her brothers Allan and Robert and her sister May.

Madelyn found her forever home in Jaffray where she spent many fun times at Rosen Lake Resort. She enjoyed farm life and animals and while working on a farm she met George. She then moved to Cranbrook where she worked at a dress shop on main street. She enjoyed helping many ladies find that perfect dress. Once Madelyn had children, she focused all of her efforts on raising them. As a mother she always had a tasty treat in her oven for us!

At the age of 29, Madelyn was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, a disease she would battle for the next 50 years. Despite all of the challenges that arthritis would present her, she always maintained a positive outlook on life and provided an excellent role model for many.

Our family would like to kindly and respectfully thank Dr. Sarah Chesney, all of the nurses and care workers that compassionately cared for Madelyn at the Lakit Neighbourhood in Joseph Creek Care Village as well as the many friends who made her time there a true joy and who brought a twinkle to her eyes.

When tomorrow starts without me

Don't think we're far apart

For every time you think of me

I'm right there in your heart.

At Madelyn's request, a memorial service will not be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honour can be made to the Arthritis Society (www.arthritis.ca or 1-800-321-1433).

Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
