I am writing to express my condolances on Stans Shaylors' death, and to add to the memories of Stan one or two things I liked and respected him for.
Stan was in the Canadian Forces during the war, involved I believe, in the salvage and repair of damaged tanks and heavy motorised equipment. He had some back problems which he I recall him attributing to the need to manhandle this heavy machinery without proper facilities.
Stan worked under me at Fort Steele Heritage Town where he did a variety of maintenance work, including vehicle maintenance. He was a well liked member of the crew and always willing to do whatever was required.
Another thing I remember about Stan was his affection for his pet dog. At one point I seem to recall that, after retirement and when he himself no longer enjoyed walking, he would take the dog for a drive! He had, I believe, been a truck driver for some years and being on the road in his car was one of his greatest pleasures.
