1937 - 2010

It is with great sorrow that the family of Melvin Reidar Thompson announces his passing on Sunday, August 29, 2010 in Cranbrook, British Columbia at 73 years of age.

Mel was born on May 7, 1937 in Cranbrook and for many years was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was an active member of the Cranbrook Golf Club, Curling Club and the Heart and Stroke Walking Club. He was dedicated to his family and a special "Papa" to his grandchildren.

Mel is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Anne, his daughter Janice (Rich Walters, Jacob and Katlin), as well as his son Ian (Jennie, Emma, Connor and Carson). Also left to mourn his passing are his brother Glen (Peggy), his sister Shirley (Bill Gibbon) as well as several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Mel was predeceased by his parents Gudrun and Rollie Thompson, his brother Ken, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Mel's life will be held at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort and Convention Centre in Cranbrook on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 11:00 am. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in honour of Mel may do so to the: Parkinson Society of British Columbia, #600, 890- West Pender Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, V6C 1S9.
