Born in Cranbrook B.C. March 26, 1917, Herbert James Conroy passed away quietly August 26, 2007 in Calgary AB.
Herbert was raised in Cranbrook and taught school in Fort Steele and Wycliffe for 5 years before joining the CPR in 1941. He had a great career as a "railroader" for 38 years before his retirement in January 1980. He assisted as a driver and family caregiver at McPherson's Funeral Home for 20 years following his retirement from the CPR. Always proud to be a native son of Cranbrook, he spoke of his 6 children as his 6 million dollar gifts.
A great supporter of St. Mary's School, he was also a proud Grand Knight and District Deputy with the Knights of Columbus.
Herb will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his 2 sons Jim (Donna) and Bud (Maggie); 4 daughters Maureen (Dennis) Adamkewicz, Lorraine (Ken) Lyster, Cheryl (Neil) McCormick and Carol (Barry) Lance; 2 step-children Linda (Larry) Shuflita and Wayne (Cheryl) Ostash and his wife Nell; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and sister Lorraine (Joseph) Fairleigh. He was predeceased by his parents James and Gertrude, 3 brothers Gus, Elmer and Jack and his beloved first wife Betty.
Visitation will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday August 30, 2007, with Prayers following at 7:00 pm at McPherson's Funeral Chapel, Cranbrook, BC.
There will be a Funeral Service held at 10:00 am on Friday August 31, 2007 at Christ The Servant Church, Cranbrook, BC. Father Conrado Beloso officiating. Interment will follow at the Westlawn Cemetery.
