Elaine Anne Pighin passed away in her 65th year at the Powell River General Hospital on July 21, 2007.
Elaine was the oldest daughter born to Walter and Kathryn Pighin. Elaine was predeceased by her parents and older brother Clarence. She is survived by her step mother, Irma Daggett (Bothell, Washington, USA), sisters Vivian Heistad (Kamloops, BC), Esther Woods (LaConner, Washington, USA), Carol Pighin Smith (Portland, Oregon, USA), step sister, Diane Langston, Snohomish, Washington USA) and brothers Wayne Pighin (Charlotte, North Carolina, USA) and Marcel Pighin (Issaquah, Washington USA) and many uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
Elaine was born in Cranbrook, B.C. She lived with her family until she was enrolled in Woodlands School in New Westminster, B.C. She moved to Seaview Lodge, later called Banyan Center, in the early 1970s. She later moved to a group home at 7050 Adams Street in 1985. In December 2002 Elaine moved from 7050 Adams Street to the group home at 4728 Redonda Avenue. Elaine was proud of both her group homes and she had a sincere interest in the day to day activities in these homes. Elaine attended the Free Spirit Leisure Club faithfully Monday to Friday. She had many friends at FSLC whom she couldn't wait to see each week. Elaine is remembered for her genuine interest in and knowledge of the well being of others, her collection of dolls - especially her confidant Lynn. She enjoyed her shopping sprees, her participation at Special O Bowling and Operation High Jump. Elaine had a sharp memory and amazing ability to recollect many interesting events and stories. She enjoyed creating and looking at photo albums, visiting friends and neighbors - especially her neighbor Laurie. She loved cooking, buying gifts for her friends, partying - especially on her birthday. She attended Faith and Light for many years and made many good friends through it. She was a regular at the Spirit of the Community Choir.Elaine will be sadly missed by her family members, housemates, many friends, and acquaintances, PRACL staff, Health Care for Community Living and Community Living BC staff.A Funeral service will be held at the Assumption Church, Powell River, BC on Monday July 30, 2007 at 11:00am.A Funeral Service will also be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cranbrook, on August 11th, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Catholic Cemetery.
