Obituary of Marjorie Stevely

Born January 25, 1917, in Parton, North Cumberland, England, Marjorie passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 15, 2007 at the age of 90 years. Marjorie immigrated to Canada, with her family of seven children when she was 10 years old. The family settled in Coal Creek, where they resided for many years. Marjorie moved to Cranbrook where she married her husband Bob (Robert), and together they raised their family. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Leite of Calgary, son Robert H. Stevely (Cindy) of Cranbrook, and Ian Stevely of Cranbrook. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren (Kari, Chris, Deane, Shellie, Bill, Robbie, Brandi, Shayne) and 15 great-grandchildren. Marjorie is also survived by several nephews and nieces. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Robert Maxwell Stevely in January 1972, and her son George William Stevely in October, 1970.She was also predeceased by her parents Edith and Jack Chester, sisters Nellie (Eleanor) Thompson, Mary Storey, Isobelle Johnston, brothers Bill Chester, Joe Chester, and Dan Chester. Marjorie enjoyed curling and golfing for many years. She also had a green thumb and enjoyed her beautiful flowers and watching the birds on a daily basis. In her younger years, she was also an avid swimmer, she swam across Moyie Lake, and also saved the life of one of the children of former Falkins residents at the former Cranbrook outdoor pool. She was always there in times of need to lend a helping hand to others. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed by all her family and all who knew her. A celebration of Marjorie's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday September 22, 2007 at the Christ Anglican Church. A reception will follow.
