Obituary of Gwendolyn Askew

Passed away suddenly on July 28, 2006 at the age of 85.

She is survived by a sister Viola Foster of Medicine Hat, AB and her family, sister-in-law Bertha Askew of Cranbrook and her family, also her good friend Lena Cullen and her son Joseph of Port Coquitlam, BC.

Gwen was predeceased by her father Melvin Grey Askew in 1965 and her mother Lillian Askew in 1992, a brother Verne in 1991, as well as a brother-in-law Elmer Foster in 1981 and niece Suzanne Askew in 1985.

Gwen was born in Monitor, AB on June 3rd 1921. She received her education in Medicine Hat. Gwen was a secretary at Volways and also worked at Ernie's Confectionary and then moved to Cranbrook, B.C. While in Cranbrook, Gwen worked at Selkirk Soft Drinks, The Armond Theatre and the Nomad Hotel. She was part owner of a fabric shop in Cranbrook and the Vogue Theatre in Fernie, B.C. One of the highlights of Gwen's retirement was the trip to Scotland she made with her sister.

The Funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday August 4th, 2006 at McPherson Funeral Chapel, Cranbrook, British Columbia.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation 121 West Broadway, Vancouver British Columbia, V6H 3V2, The Salvation Army, 533 Slater Road, Cranbrook, or the Cranbrook Boys and Girls Club, 1404 2nd St. N.

Gwen was loved and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
