Obituary of Helen Lenore Newhouse
1922 - 2010
It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Lenore Newhouse announces her passing on Sunday, September 26, 2010 in Cranbrook, British Columbia at 88 years of age.
Helen was born in Donovan, Saskatchewan on May 16, 1922. She started her primary school teaching career in Saskatoon. After her marriage to Sydney on July 3, 1956, Helen moved to Kimberley where she resumed teaching. Helen remained a primary teacher with the Kimberley School District until her retirement in 1984. Helen was an ardent Kimberley Dynamiters and Kootenay Ice fan. She also volunteered for many years at the Pines.
Left to mourn Helen's passing are her loving husband Sydney John Newhouse; sister Francis Marble of Saskatoon; sisters-in-law: Eileen Hedge, Violet Maxted, Dorothy Cowles, Muriel Wilgehof, June (Ken) Elkerton, all of the Okanagan. Helen was predeceased by her brother Glen Hahn; her brother-in-law Cork Marble; her father Thomas Edward Hahn who passed away May 17, 1954 at age 72; and her mother Catherine Jane Milligan, who passed away November 20, 1978 at age 89.
A memorial service for Helen will be held on Friday, October 1, 2010 at the Kimberley United Church at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution in honour of Helen may do so to the: Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon, Cranbrook Unit, #101, 105 - 9th Avenue South, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 2M1.
