Please share a memory of Gwendoline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that the family of Gwendoline Fanshaw announces her passing on February 5, 2008 in Sparwood, B.C. at the age if 68 years.

Gwen was born in Ilkeston England on April 14,1939. She immigrated to Canada in 1974 where she resided in Sparwood B.C. until her passing. Being born in a time of great hardship she wasn't able to complete school in England, so she returned to school in Canada to graduate. She went on to become a home support worker, an accomplishment she was very proud of. She enjoyed helping others so this was a fitting career. Gwen was a long-standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion where on a number of occasions she became an officer. She was also very involved in the higher levels of the BCGEU bargaining committee for her fellow workers.Gwen had many hobbies but her 3 favorites were knitting, sewing and crocheting which she was extremely good at. Her sewing especially was always in great demand especially from her family. But her greatest pleasure came from playing simple games and just doing anything with her grand kids, and spending time with her family and friends.Gwen suffered from arthritis for a great number of years but she did not let this hold her back from doing the things she loved. Before the arthritis got too bad she loved to go camping, which on a lot of occasions was just to relax in the outdoors with her crochet needles and wool.Gwen was all about family and she loved her five boys, and as she would say her girls (daughters in law) and her grandchildren and family in England. She had very special friends in Sparwood who helped her so much in the absence of her sons, she had what she would call her extra son in Sparwood, Little Kenny she would say helped her in so many ways he was like a son. Also Julie, who did so much for her, whether Gwen was in town or away sick or well Julie was always there. Also a special mention to Andrew, David and Susan for all the help they gave her. There were so many people who's hearts Gwen touched and it is with great sadness that she has passed, but it is also a great honour to have had the privilege to have been involved in such a wonderful persons life. Although It's Difficult Today To See Beyond The Sorrow, May Looking Back In Memory Help Comfort Us Tomorrow.

Gwen is survived by her five sons Steven (Gaynor), Brian (Deb), Russ (Trena), Wayne (Shirley), Pete (Gemma), Grandchildren; Chance, Bryce, Jared, Byron, Kyle, Kaden, Learna, Karla, Sian, Jade, Dale, Kristy, Lana, Cory, Ellis, Robert, and Lynsey, sister and brothers Connie, Dennis, Ernie, Peter, and numerous nieces and nephews, and all who knew her.

Those who wish to make a donation in memory of Gwen may do so to the charity of your choice.
