Obituary of Helen Frances O'Connor

1925 - 2009

Our dear mother Helen Frances "Bunny" O'Connor passed away peacefully on October 28, 2009 at the age of 84 years.

Bunny lived all her adult life in Kimberley, although she was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. She enjoyed contributing to her community and among other things, was a long time member of the Anglican Altar Guild, as well being the Curator of the Kimberley Museum for a number of years. Her greatest pleasure came from raising her children and being a positive guiding force in their lives. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She was happiest when she had her family around her, especially if there was a baby nearby. The grandkids knew there were always lots of things to do and play with at grandma's house. And, she always had fresh cookies and treats. She could always be counted on to give unconditional love, good advice and valuable lessons in thinking of the needs of others. She was, and always will be, very special.

Bunny is survived by her children: Cheryl (Ian) Barrett, Judy (Bryan) Twells, David (Colleen), Brent (Kevin), and Keith (Jane); as well as 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Jean Soderberg of Calgary, Alberta.

She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 2008, and an infant daughter Jeannie in 1950. The family would like to thank the staff of the Pines (Kimberley Special Care Home) for their extraordinary care and kindness shown to our mother. They truly helped her through the last difficult years.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of Bunny can be made to the: Alzheimer Society of B.C., #300 - 828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1E2 or the: Kimberley Special Care Home, 386 - 2nd Avenue, Kimberley, British Columbia, V1A 2Z8.
