Obituary of Mary Johnstone

1912 - 2009

Mary Johnstone of Kimberley, British Columbia passed away at her home in the Pines on January 8, 2009 at age 96 in the presence of her two children.

She was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland on August 12, 1912. Mary married Bob Johnstone on October 27, 1933. Together they raised two children, Moira and Bob Jr. Bob Sr. emigrated to Canada in October 1954 and Mary, Moira and Bob Jr followed in March 1955. Mary and Bob resided in several BC communities: Nanaimo, Gabriola Island, Summerland, Peachland, Marysville, and Westbank, before making Kimberley their final stop.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Bob; her parents and eight siblings; and two grandchildren: Wayne Jurgens and Jana Johnstone.

She is survived by her children: Moira Jurgens and Bob (Vikki) Johnstone of Kimberley; grandchildren Heather Jurgens of Penticton, Bob (Jenn) Johnstone of Comox, Mike (Shana) Johnstone of Castlegar, James (Elisa) Johnstone of Cranbrook, Jennifer (Karl) McGuigan of Rocky Mountain House, and Samantha Johnstone of Red Deer. She will also be missed by many great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, especially Marge (Ray) Accarias of Kelowna; and long term friends, Ray and Lois Doumont of Nanaimo.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday January 20, 2009 at the McPherson Funeral Home Chapel in Kimberley with Rev. Jeff Seaton officiating. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Mary may do so by making a donation in her honour to the: Kimberley Special Care Home, 386 - 2nd Avenue, Kimberley, British Columbia, V1A 2Z8 or the: B.C.
