1927- 2009
Arthur Lewis (Art) Jones, 81, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2009 with his family by his side.
Art was born and raised in Cranbrook. He received his Engineering Degree from UBC in 1953. After graduation, he worked in Teslin, where he met his wife Betty. In 1955, he returned to Cranbrook and joined in partnership with his father's firm AE Jones Construction Company. He constructed a number of commercial buildings and houses in the Cranbrook area. He joined the School District as Plant Superintendent in 1972 and retired in 1993.
Art was active in sports in his youth: hockey, baseball and badminton. At different points in his life, he belonged to various organizations: Rotary Club of Cranbrook, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge. He traveled extensively, enjoyed hiking and relaxing at the family cabin at Moyie, and liked woodworking. He built most of the homes the family lived in and took an interest in hobby farming. He spent his last years being the primary caregiver for his wife Betty. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Art is survived by his wife, Betty, of almost 54 years; their three children: Heather (Stuart) Tobe, Evan (Wendy), Ian (Sherra); grandchildren: Justin, Lewis, Chelsey, Georgia, Jessica, Hali, Mason; one sister, Myrt and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by son Barry, sister, Berta, and brother, Frank.
An open house to celebrate Art's life will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 from 2:00 -4:00 pm in the Reception Room of McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook.

The family wishes to thank Dr Kilfoil, the staff at Joseph Creek Care Village and the private caregivers for their care during Art's last years.
