Please share a memory of Cecil to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

1920 - 2009

Cecil Orville Detta, born on the Detta Homestead, in the Qu Appelle Valley, 12 miles N.E. of Brownlee, Saskatchewan on November 7, 1920, passed away peacefully at the F.W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook on February 5, 2009.

Cecil worked for Teck Cominco in Trail for 30 years and was proud to say he was retired more years than he worked. He, with his wife Norma, lived in Rossland, British Columbia for many years and moved to Cranbrook in April of 1997. They lived here enjoying the many beautiful areas the East Kootenay has to offer for camping and fishing which both he and Norma loved to do. Cecil loved country music. His favourite singers were Johnny Cash, and Don Williams. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast.

Cecil is survived by his sons: Ken (Bernice) and Keith (Helen); daughter: Linda (Jim); 5 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; plus many nieces and nephews.

Cecil was predeceased by his wife Norma in May of 2001, his parents, 1 sister and 4 brothers.

Thank you to his caregivers at Cedar Ridge Manor and the F. W. Green Memorial Home, where he spent his last few years missing Norma, but was content and happy due to those who took such good care of him.

A very special thank you to Fran Bateman, his niece and primary caregiver, for the exceptional love, care and respect which she gave Cecil (and Norma) ever since they moved to Cranbrook and in particular for the companionship and support that she gave Cecil after Norma died. And, not to be forgotten, his special visits from his favourite little pup Mitzi with whom he shared his pocket full of "treats".

A celebration of Cecil's life will be held at the Cranbrook United Church at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 12, 2009.

A private family Interment will take place at a later date. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in honour of Cecil may do so to their charity of choice.
