Born: December 25, 1918 near Webb, Saskatchewan

Passed Away: February 27, 2009 in Cranbrook, British Columbia

It is with great sadness the family of Carl Edward Jenson announce his passing after a brief illness at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, B.C., on Friday, February 27, 2009.

Dad came into this world on a farm 12 miles north of Webb, SK on December 25, 1918, the fifth of six sons born to Andrew and Emma Jenson. He attended school in Kyle and, after completing Grade 8, went to work in the family dray business delivering water, ice and other essentials of the day to people in the area. Carl met Margaret Mutlow and on November 22, 1940 were married. Together, they made their home in the Sanctuary-Tuberose district where he continued to work in various jobs. On May 26, 1941, Carl and Margaret were blessed with the arrival of the first of four children when their son, Terry, was born. Their only daughter, Judy, was born in 1945; followed by two more sons, Les in 1947 and Roland in 1949. Dad was a successful entrepreneur his entire life and joyfully passed along his small business acumen and work ethic to his children and grandchildren. In the early 1950s, Carl and Margaret bought the Beechy Hotel and operated it for close to 20 years. In addition to the hotel, Dad also owned and operated several other businesses in Beechy, including the B/A bulk fuel dealership, B&I Service Station, a Chrysler dealership (and later the GM dealership as well) and was also an International Harvester farm equipment dealer. Dad loved agriculture and also did some farming east of Demaine, operated a feedlot north of Beechy and served as the mayor of Beechy for a number of years. In the early 1970s, Carl and Marg purchased the hotel in Outlook and made the community their home until they retired in 1978. In addition to operating the hotel and being named an honourary life member of the Hotels Association of Saskatchewan, Dad served as mayor of Outlook for several terms in the 1970s and 1980s, was a member of the regional health board for many years and volunteered his time to many worthy causes in the communities he lived in, including meals on wheels and home support services. Dad loved to spend time in the garden, tinkering and fixing things in the yard, fishing and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also regularly enjoyed the company of many friends over a cup of coffee at Noisy Jim's (New Outlook Café). After Margaret's passing on November 7, 2003, Dad moved to be closer to his daughter, Judy, in Cranbrook, BC, in 2004, where he resided until his passing. Right up to his final days, Carl remained very independent -- living on his own and spending most days travelling around town and shopping on his scooter.

Dad was predeceased his parents, Andrew and Emma; wife, Margaret; eldest son, Terry in 1975; two childhood brothers at a very young age; plus older brothers, Thorolf and Arthur and youngest brother, Albert.

Carl is survived by his loving family: Terry's daughters Jackie Elash of Saskatoon, Wendy Siltamaki of Thunder Bay, ON and Michelle (Ralph) Bird of Saskatoon and their mother Gloria of Saskatoon; daughter, Judy (Morgan) of Cranbrook, BC and her children Lee (Michelle) Scott of Kelowna, BC and Sandra (Ramon) Schlagenhaufer-Scott of Ottawa; son, Les (Michele) Jenson of Salt Spring Island, BC and their sons, Yannick of Victoria, BC, Shaughn of Salt Spring Island, BC, Johann of Victoria, BC, Jean-Christophe of Saskatoon and Jean-Sebastien of Salt Spring Island, BC; and son, Roland (Denise) Jenson of Outlook and their children, Terry (Angela Heidel) Jenson of Warman, Nonnee (Ryan) Jenson of Red Deer, AB and Karla (Derek Stobbe) Mote of Red Deer, AB; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

A family memorial service was held in Cranbrook, BC on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. A formal celebration of Carl's life and interment of cremains will be held at a later date in Outlook, SK.
