1922 - 2009

It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that the loved ones of Rudy Swirsky announce his passing on April 7, 2009 while under the care of Cranbrook East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

He is predeceased by his mother and father, brothers Bert and Eddie and sister Lily. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Ethel; children: Susan Foisy, Ron Swirsky, Ray Swirsky; stepchildren: Terry Ross (Pat), Marilyn Ross, Vicki Loraas, Mike Koshlay (Yvonne); grandchildren: Jeff, Victoria, Selena; many step grandchildren and great grand stepchildren; his best pal in the world and light of his life Terry Boake (grandson) and his sunshine girl Jessie Foisy (granddaughter).

Rudy was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. As a child growing up during the depression he loved the river and would often catch fish to sell before school. His favourite decade was the 1930's saying people worked hard and knew the value of money and were more respectful of each other and wiling to help those in need. Being a veteran of World War II he could keep an audience engaged while telling of his army exploits, many of them humerous. After the war he came to Kimberley where he worked for Cominco until his retirement. Rudy was well known for his great sense of humour and quick wit. His favourite politician was Tommy Douglas. Some of his favourite activities during his lifetime were: swimming, hunting and fishing, building boats, bowling, playing cards, watching professional sports, horse racing and slots, traveling the northwestern states, reading, talking politics, playing harmonica, crosswords, sudokas and above all - bringing up Baby (grandson). With a family of nine to support he often took carpentry jobs for extra income. Many a carport in Kimberley were built by Rudy. He also built the family's original home and then planned and built the current home. He will be sadly missed here on earth but remains heartwarmingly close in our hearts and souls. So we shall laugh a little and cry a little. That's the glory of love.

There will be no service. In lieu of flowers please make donations to: The Salvation Army, 533 Slater Road NW, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 4Y5. Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.Condolences for the family can be offered at: www.mcphersonfh.com
