Obituary of John Barrie
Born: July 5, 1926 in Commerce, Alberta
Passed Away: Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in the East Kootenay Regional Hospital at the age of eighty-two
John served in the Navy during World War II and then moved to Kimberley, B.C., where he worked underground for the Cominco Mine for forty years. He loved music, gardening, animals, many sports including golf, hockey, bowling, softball, and traveled when he was in good health. He would bring joy to the neighbourhood with his great yodeling and whistling while he worked. For many years he coached various youth sports teams in the community and served as a volunteer fireman.
John is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Joyce; children Barb (Jim) Kadin, Gord Barrie and Val Morton, Len (Arlene) Barrie; grandchildren Len, Cindy, Michael, Jolene, Christina, Mark, Jocelyn, Jennifer, Naomi, and Kathleen; and thirteen great grandchildren.
John was predeceased by his Mom and Dad, sister Edith, infant brother Lenord, and infant sister Barbara. A family graveside service took place Monday, May 25th with Interment at the Kimberley Cemetery.
