It is with great sorrow that the family of Sidney (Sid) Arnold Smith announce his passing on June 10, 2009, at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, after experiencing a stroke in March.

Sid was born May 22, 1932 at Vallican, British Columbia the 3rd of 10 children. Sid was a heavy duty mechanic most of his life and was well known and respected throughout the East and West Kootenays. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting with his children and grandchildren. He was an awesome Grandpa and family man.

Sid is survived by his loving wife Irene of 51 years; son Dale (Karen) of Cranbrook; daughter Carla (Norm) Fennell of Barriere, British Columbia; grandchildren: Brienna, Noelle, Devan and Trevor; sisters: Joan (Charlie) Bunce of Nelson, British Columbia, Virginia (Ginni) Vulcano of Coldstream, British Columbia, brothers: Vic of Prince George, British Columbia, David and Richard (Dick) Smith of Langley, British Columbia, Joe (Diane) of Lethbridge, Alberta and many nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his father Richard, mother Jessie, brother Lawrence and sisters Anita and Rose.

An open house memorial will be held on August 15th at the home of Dale and Karen Smith. Details will be announced at a later date.
