June 3, 1918 - July 5, 2009

Murray was born in Cranbrook to James and Bertha Wheaton. As a young man he excelled in sports with his high school mile record standing for decades. In 1940 he married his high school sweetheart Florence Williams. He served in the Canadian Army during WWII both at home and overseas. He worked for the Cranbrook Courier (now the Townsman) for nearly fifty years, doing every task from sweeping floors to writing a sports column. He was a co-founder of Cranbrook Minor Hockey and was Citizen of the Year in 1982.

He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Florie and by his sister, Frances (Stan) Young and brother, Duke Wheaton. He is survived by his son, Michael (grandsons, MacKenzie and Timothy and their mother Holly); his daughter, Cindy Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

At Murray's request there will be no service. A special thanks to the staff at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook and his very dedicated and caring Dr. Kevin McIver.
