Obituary of Chad Larsen

Please share a memory of Chad to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

1968 - 2009

Chad Evan Larsen was born in Edmonton, Alberta on May 10, 1968. When he was a year old his parents moved back to Jaffray, British Columbia where Chad spent his childhood days. He went to school in Jaffray, graduated from Fernie Secondary School, and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Anthropology, from the University of Victoria. During his teenage years, Chad loved to play basketball and ride dirt bikes. He enjoyed snowmobiling and riding his quad up to First Peak. He had a love of music and spent many hours playing his guitar and banjo.

For the past sixteen years Chad had worked for the Regional District of East Kootenay as a park attendant at the Tie Lake Regional Park. He enjoyed the beauty of the park, often talking about the mother deer and their fawns and the water fowl and their young ones. Twenty-two years ago Chad began his challenge with rheumatoid arthritis. He had many surgeries to keep his mobility. Through all of this he remained positive and complained very little. On October 15, 2009, Chad passed away quickly in the Elk Valley Hospital from heart and respiratory complications.

Chad is survived by his parents, Marlin and Karen Larsen; his sister Kari and her husband Scott MacKenzie; his nieces Kayla and Jolene MacKenzie; his grandmother Verna Barr; plus many aunts, uncles and cousins and his little dog Gaston.

His family would like to thank his doctors, Dr. Michal and Dr. Clark, and the nurses of Elk Valley Hospital for the care and friendship they extended toward Chad each time he was there - sometimes just for a quick blood test and other times to recuperate after surgery.

Chad's funeral was held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Jaffray. He was buried in the Sand Creek Cemetery beside his grandfather Eddie Barr. His family would also like to thank all who have been so kind and caring during this difficult time.
