Obituary of Wayne Matthews

Please share a memory of Wayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

December 10, 1946 - October 6, 2009

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a great man, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Wayne lost his courageous battle to cancer with family and many friends by his side. Wayne was born in Windsor, Ontario and lived his younger days there. After serving in the Canadian Navy he moved with his family to Cranbrook in 1966. He was a fireman in the Cranbrook Fire Department for 27 years. He retired as a Captain and Training Officer in May 1998.Wayne had many interests and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and cooking. Cooking for his friends and family was something he loved to do, along with all the teasing one could take (Quarter Turn).

He leaves behind his son, Paul (Kate), granddaughter Sarah (the twinkle in his eye), sister Julie (David) Bellm, nephew Dwayne (Jill) Bellm and their children Quinn and Brie Bellm as well as many, many friends.

He was predeceased by his father Ken Matthews in 1990 and his mother Evelyn Matthews in 2005. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

There will be no funeral service at Wayne's request. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, adopt a pet or donate to the S.P.C.A. (East Kootenay S.P.C.A., Box 2, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 4H6) as he liked animals more than most people.

Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.Condolences for the family can be offered at:www.mcphersonfh.com
