1919 - 2009

It is with great sorrow that the family of George Edward Gregory Harrison announces his passing on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 in Cranbrook, British Columbia at 90 years of age.

George was born and raised in Cranbrook. He enlisted in the Canadian Army after graduation. Serving with distinction in the Canadian Army Signal Corps, he participated in the Liberation of Holland. Upon his return home, George took employment with CP Rail as a conductor. He retired in 1983 after a 38 year career. George was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, the Brotherhood of Railway Train Men and the Royal Canadian Legion. After retirement, George became an active member of the CPR pensioners. Next to his love of family, George's passions included hunting, fishing and camping. George also loved to dance and was always the first person up when the band started playing. Left to mourn George's passing are his 5 children: Jane (Bill) Leaman, Maureen Harper, Marcia (Mike) Stambulic, Butch Harrison, Margaret (David) Abbey; his grandchildren: Michael, Lori, George, Shayne, Tracey, Marianna, Brandi, Natalie, David, Jeanette, Peggy and many great grandchildren.

George was predeceased by his wife Monica Margaret (Loughery), daughter Mary Annette, his parents Robert and Maude Harrison, his son-in-law Glen Harper, brothers William Harrison and Frank Harrison and his sister Catherine Hayes-O'Sullivan.

Visitation for George will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009 from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm followed by Prayers at 7:00 pm at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook. His funeral service will be held on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Cranbrook.

George's Interment will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in Cranbrook. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in George's honour may do so to the: F.W. Green Recreational Society, 1700 - 4th Street South, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 6E1.
