Obituary of David Reidar Sortome

David Reidar Sortome was born April 19, 1922 in Grand Forks, and passed away November 5, 2009 in the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

His early education was in Kimberley; he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia in 1949; and then went on to the University of Toronto to become a Doctor of Dental Surgery. He practiced dentistry in Kimberley, Kelowna, Vancouver, and Creston. He served his country in the RCAF during the Second World War. As a young man he was an exceptional athlete, and as an adult he golfed and skied as well as enjoying television sports - baseball, golf, hockey and football. In his retirement he spent many hours fishing in the St. Mary River.

David was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Emma; brothers Gordon and Leonard; sisters Mildred Ingebrigtsen and Eleanor Sortome. His brother Clarence survived him for 4 days, and passed away on Monday, November 9, 2009 in Cranbrook, British Columbia.

He leaves to mourn his wife Frances (nee Holland) of Vancouver; daughter Anita of Burnaby; sisters-in-law Lorna Sortome of Kimberley, Lucille Sortome of Calgary and Isabel Jeffery of Fernie; and many nieces and nephews.
