Obituary of Michele Amantea

September 5, 1929 - December 14, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a very special husband, father, grandfather and friend at the age of 83 years.

Born in Maione, Italy, Mike spent his younger years working the family land, which is where he found his love for gardening. He immigrated on his own to Canada on August 24, 1953 in order to explore the world and find new opportunities. He spent a few years working in different locations in B.C., but finally settled in Kimberley. He worked hard for the City of Kimberley and provided for his family of whom he was so very proud. His love for making good wine and a great garden will be remembered by all who knew him.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Maria, daughter Ricki (Mike) Blackwell; son Mario (Michele) Amantea; Grandchildren: Andrea (Dennis) Lowe, Mark Blackwell and Cam Amantea; brother Pepe and sister Lillina who both reside in Italy.

He was predeceased by his father Gofredo and mother Enrichetta as well as his sisters Sylvia Bombino, Maria DeCaro and brother Guido Amantea.

His Funeral Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kimberley on Tuesday December 18th at 1:00 pm. Memorial donations in honour of Mike can be made to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health, Heart Failure Program, 13 - 24th Avenue North, Cranbrook, BC V1C 3H9.
