Pauline Russell aged 91 years passed away in the East Kootenay Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness on April 7, 2010.
Pauline was born in Granum, Alberta on January 10, 1919 and raised in Pincher Creek, Alberta. The family then moved to Lethbrige, Alberta where she worked as an interior decorator. After her marriage to John "Jack" Alexander Russell in 1953, she moved to Calgary, Alberta with Jack and carried on with her decorating career. In 1965 she and Jack moved to an orchard in Keremos, British Columbia. Another move took Pauline and Jack to Cranbrook, where they retired. Quilting was one of Pauline's favourite hobbies and she produced many beautiful hand sewn quilts. Another hobby was gold panning and her friends affectionately called her "Polly the Panner".
Pauline was predeceased by her brothers Stanley Hunka of Calgary, Alberta and Ron Hunka of Toronto, Ontario. She leaves to mourn, her loving husband Jack Russell; her sister Olga Howard of Lethbridge, Alberta; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack wishes to thank the doctors and nurses and all the other workers at the hospital who treated her with so much care and compassion. God bless you all.
A gathering of friends and relations will take place at Serenity Gardens Columbarium (on the north-west end of Westlawn Cemetery) with Reverend Warner Froese officiating at 2:00 pm on the 17th of April, 2010. Following the Interment a memorial tea will be held in the Reception Room at the McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook. In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes may make a donation to the: Alzheimer Society of B.C., #300, 828 - West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1E2 in Pauline's memory.
